Miss Emma's Tips!
SIMPLIFY Instead of counting calories (which is what I don't do) or measuring portions, look at your diet in terms of color, freshness and variety. This way it will be easier to make healthy choices! Focus on eating foods that you know are nutritious and try new recipes that incorporate a fresh ingredients. Gradually your diet will become healthier, more delicious and you will feel like a new person!
START SLOW Thinking your diet is going to change overnight, it wont! Changing everything your eating at once or going cold turkey on certain foods you love or cave usually leads to binge eating or giving up on your new healthy lifestyle plan. Make small steps, like adding a salad (full of different color vegetables) to your diet once a day or switching from butter to coconut oil when cooking. As your small changes become a habit, you can continue to add more healthy choices to your diet and will want to eliminate all processed food! EVERY CHANGE MATTERS You don't have to be perfect, and you don't have to eliminate all foods. Your goal is to feel good, have more energy and get healthy. Every healthy change you make will 100% count! DRINK WATER Water helps flush our systems of waste products and toxins. Yet many people go through life dehydrated—causing tiredness, aches & pains, low energy, depression the list goes on and on! It’s actually common to mistake thirst for hunger. When your body is asking for water it can give you the feeling of hunger, so staying well hydrated will help you make healthier food choices! EXERCISE Find something active that you like to do and do it! Every day! The benefits of lifelong exercise are abundant and regular exercise will motivate you to make healthy food choices and living a healthy lifestyle a habit. FACT: it will motivate you! EAT BREAKFAST & SMALL MEALS A healthy breakfast can jumpstart your metabolism, and eating small healthy meals throughout the day (rather than the standard three large meals) keeps your energy levels stable and your metabolism boosted to ignite fat burning processes!
AVOID LATE NIGHT SNACKS Avoid eating 2-3 hours before you go to sleep! What you eat at night will fuel you in the morning. If you have a sugary bowl of cereal before bed, you will most likely not want to get out of bed and when you do you will be craving another bowl of sugary cereal to re-satisfy that need. After-dinner snacks people like to choose tend to be high in fat and calories so they should be completely avoided when trying to achieve a healthy lifestyle.
